Drawing on the archives of the 20th century, Akram Khan gives voice to the dreadful dream of a colonial soldier in the First World War. XENOS reveals the human condition in its beauty and horror with this portrait of an Indian dancer whose body becomes an instrument of war.
Between classical kathak and contemporary dance, XENOS takes place on the border between past and present, mythology and technology, where humanity stands in wonder and disarray. In this solo piece, Akram Khan is joined onstage by five international musicians: vocalist Aditya Prakash, percussionist B C Manjunath, violinist Clarice Rarity, saxophonist Tamar Osborn and bass player Nina Harries.
Along with dramaturg Ruth Little and Canadian playwright Jordan Tannahill, Akram Khan teams up with German designer Mirella Weingarten, lighting designer Michael Hulls, costume designer Kimie Nakano, and composer Vincenzo Lamagna.
