With Bad Translation, Cris Blanco aims at translating the digital world into the analogue universe, with cardboard, fabric and plastic in a desperate attempt to make it tangible.
We start from a Mac computer – the most proponent in our everyday life – recreated manually on stage: the desktop is a theatre curtain and the folders are made of cardboard. The performers turn into operators of the computer system and the stage becomes an analogue computer. We decode the digital functions through choreographies on the stage, that result in digital forms on a screen. The audience watches the two-dimensional screen and the “making of” in three dimensions, live on stage.
Little by little the audience gets to know the Mac user, and witnesses other bad translations happening in her life. Trying to fake a digital life - far more interesting than her real analogue life, she allows us to reflect on our relationship to digital technologies. Do we spend too much time living in our mobile phone screens ?
