Johanna Faye / Saïdo Lehlouh

In May 2018, in La Courneuve’ Fraternity Square, Johannae Faye and Saïdo Lehlouh, alongside designer and visual artist Malte Martin, welcomed and directed seven electro and hip-hop dancers to redefine the contours of the South of Cité des 4000. Audience and dancers occupied different spots of that square at the same time, the urban scenography lines answering the dance’s frenzy. From this adventure was born the desire to create Earthbound, based on similarities, frictions, contrasts and porosities between the electro body language – born in night clubs, and the hip-hop body language – born in the street. Interlockings, contortions, geometric shapes, body circularity: the dancers connect the two currents and bring out atypical movements inspired from voguing, locking, house or popping. At the sound system’s helm, Londoner IG Culture adds a touch of jazz fusion to this fantastic effusion of styles.
