With words, silences, bodies. In rap and hip-hop scenes, the expression “du sale” is a reference to the deal, to dirty money. Comparing rap to the biz, the rap game to a shady activity, is a reminder that it doesn’t obey morality. Like a certain theatre, a certain dance, rap is an energy in and of itself, that frees itself from the constraints of taking power and inversing relationships of power. And as Marion Siéfert reminds us, “a lot of energy is needed to flip the table when you come from the bottom”.
