In 2010, Mourad Merzouki created Boxe Boxe, his first collaboration with the Debussy String Quartet. It was an opportunity to reconnect with his initial training, martial arts, and to bring hip hop dancers and musicians together in a live performance. The show was performed around the world and was seen by nearly 130,000 spectators. Boxe Boxe Brazil is like round two of the piece: a recreation for and with the Carioca dancers who performed at the Lyon Boxe Biennale in 2006, and who have since collaborated closely with the choreographer (Agwa, 2008, Correria, 2010, and Käfig Brasil, 2012).
This new version of the play transforms the earlier one by integrating the gestures, music and energy of Brazil, in the same spirit that has always been to the fore in the Käfig Company's creations: the intersection of artistic universes and their opening to the world.
