Serge Aimé Coulibaly explores a theme dear to him: that of a people on the move. The great movements of people, whatever the times, countries or continents, bring with them fears and determinations, past and future, transformations.
The Belgian-Burkinabe choreographer, in collaboration with the Malian composer Rokia Traoré, brings together nine dancers, two singers, five musicians, a narrator and about twenty extras. Together, they reinterpret the Mandingo myths, stories that scholars and griots have been telling in West Africa for generations, as essential to cultural life there as Christian iconography or Bach's music can be here. A tribute to the vertiginous epics that men have always undertaken.
