The new dissidents

A festival that spotlights today's dissidents, supporting the words and acts of those who, often risking their lives and freedom, stand up to authoritarian powers, whether they be political or economic.

Democracy, freedom and rights are in retreat; let us support those who react. These non-violent 'new dissidents', their faces uncovered, once again stir the battles of yesteryear's dissidents. They astutely and creatively invent ways to contest authoritarianism and the abuse of power. Using films, texts and works of art, they battle alone, often in the face of indifference or disapproval.

For three days, the public is invited to encounters, round tables, performances and screenings in the company of dissidents from all around the globe. There will be a special programme for the youngsters too, focussing on issues of freedom and democracy.
