Compulsory Figures is a spectacular installation designed by artist Xavier Veilhan, in which, at a set time, dancer and skater Stephen Thompson performs a choreography and brings a now-vanished Olympic discipline back to life. Like an archaeologist of movement, he re-activates the extremely technical and precise 'compulsory figures' that required skaters to cut an exact circle into the ice three times. During his performance tableaux come to life: pendulums turn, objects slide and mechanisms are triggered. An immersive experience at the heart of movement.
