Following on from Ermitologie, and their version for younger audiences, Les Songes d'Antoine, performed at La Villette in 2018, Clédat & Petitpierre bring to life three examples of creatures from the bizarre peoples that haunt mediaeval fantasy: the Blemmyes, headless men with eyes in their chests; Sciapods, one-legged people with a single foot so big it could be used as a sunshade; and Panotii, who were able to wrap themselves up in their gigantic ears when they went to sleep.
These Merveilles (marvels) with strange bodies, resulting from the recomposition of the huge puzzle of nature and witnesses to its creative power, develop in an oversized vegetal biotope that they modify at the whim of their artistic activities. Dance and sculpture are on the menu, like so many mediaeval reminiscences which liven and nourish a joyous thought of otherness.
