Alice Ripoll is back at La Villette with REC, a vivifying collective of dancers hailing from favelas. A plastic blue tarp is stretched out on the set. Colorful buckets filled with water and soap arrive. In Lavagem, both stage and subject-matter are inevitably slippery. The dance plays with the absurdity of a sexist and shaded social hierarchy, covering itself in white foam. The ground becomes an ice rink, on which not losing balance is a challenge. Addressing the public, Alice Ripoll shakes up the established and constitutive order of Brazilian society: what is this dirt? What is it that we need to wash so roughly until it disappears?
