Staying true to her taste for stylistic turnarounds, choreographer Angelin Preljocaj returns to La Villette’s Grande Halle for a new much-awaited creation. A tribal work thought out for around twenty performers.
Angelin Preljocaj likes changing universes with each project. La Villette’s audience knows it, having had the chance of seeing several works by the choreographer these past few years, and even a few of his rehearsals in summer 2020, in the framework of Plaine d’Artistes. In 2018, Still Life took inspiration from vanity and still life paintings, set to the very modern music of Alva Noto and the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, while Blanche-Neige reinterpreted the Grimm brothers’ fairytale with hand-picked songs by Gustav Mahler. More recently, Gravité attempted to defy the laws of physics. In 2024, Angelin Preljocaj has no intention of changing his methods, which made renewal and risk-taking its two powerful driving forces. His new creation rallies around twenty dancers for a vast and tribal choreography organized around an ambition: to conjoin an intimate style with a layout adapted to the volumes of the Grande Halle. An unwavering faith in dance and its ability to produce universal beauty and emotions.
